Blog Journal 6

Initially using Diigo I was not fond of the extension. I had a couple problems getting everything to work properly but after some time the kinks worked themselves out. I think that this would be a great tool for group research projects. I like that I can automatically see if someone has reviewed a webpage as soon as it opens. I already used this feature to prevent myself from referencing the same source as another student in the portfolio assignments.

I am personally not a fan of blogging. I have never grasped the idea of why it was a relevant thing for someone to upkeep. I understand it can have its uses in the professional world and I recognize that, but from my personal point of view the upkeep of a blog seems more counterproductive than productive. As with everything it has its place and use and I recognize that there is a need for it in the professional world, but it is not something I enjoy using.

Web 2.0 tools can be very progressive in the classroom. The internet brings about an entire realm of possibilities that were not realistic before. In my classroom I would use the Discovery Channel’s ChickCam. This allows students to log on and experience live a chick hatching from its egg. This is something that used to be done commonly in schools, but it has been becoming more difficult to provide this experience to everyone, and with the discovery channel it is now possible.

  1. I agree with your statement about Diigo, it's super clunky to use and it's a little bit of an outdated platform. It's super useful though for projects and stuff so I would love to get to use it for that, but other than that I don't think I would use it either. I also think that the ChickCam was supper interesting to use, and I would love to use it when I am in my own classroom as well!

  2. Hey Judah! I agree that Diigo could be helpful in group research projects as a way to consolidate information all in one place—I guess that’s one of the benefits of using a Web 2.0 tool! Is part of the reason you do not enjoy blogging because it is not as interactive as other forms of communication media? I can see how it feels a bit one-sided compared to the social media sites that have become popular in recent years.
